Had a dream that I was going to band camp on the moon and to save fuel they had us leave our instruments and clothes behind and only use the camp uniforms and equipment. When we deboarded the space shuttle my middle school band teacher handed me a spacesuit and a box that looked exactly like a box of pasta with the little cellophane window, but instead of pasta there were very tiny woodwind pieces and it said BASSOON on it. "BASSOON: add water."

draconym

Blue cardboard barilla pasta box edited to say "BASSOON: Just Add Water." Tiny bassoons are visible through the plastic window, underneath which is written "works on the moon." There is a depiction of a tiny bassoon hastily edited to be on the end of a fork, replacing the pasta.ALT

Ok this is all fine and good but op why the hell were you marching a bassoon

I dunno, but I like how this was the most unreasonable part of the dream to you.

the advantage of gas stoves is that you can get more precise/dramatic temperature control like on a gas stove if a pot is boiling over you can just turn down the heat and the heat applied to the pot immediately decreases with an electric stove if a pot is boiling over you have to pick it up and move it somewhere else on the stove because the electrical heating element takes some time to cool own

I think Americans in general should maybe start taking xenophobia more seriously. Because with the. Everything going on in the world right now. It's gotten really really bad. And while lefties might not be reactionary to the same extent as republicans it's still very much prevalent. I went to dinner with my family recently and the stuff they said about my cousin's family who emigrated from Russia made me feel like I was losing my mind. He's 2 years old. How are you going to discriminate against a baby with a clear conscience. Then you read the news and it's like "China is spying on you with TikTok and weather balloons" and you hear people on all angles of the political compass repeat it. Are you hearing yourself right now. Are you for real

brakshow

Cannot believe I have to say this but I am Lakota. as in native american. As in almost everyone's family came to the united states from another country at one point, except for the people who were already living here. Like my mom's family. And I live here.

Immediately assuming I must be a white european because I disagree with widespread american xenophobia is prelly wild. Honestly. When I mentioned my family and America in the same post I thought it was clear that I live here.

"But you said you had family from Russia?"

Yes. People get married sometimes. My cousin married someone from Russia. They had a baby. He's a good baby btw. Fantastic little dude. I hope he grows up in a better world than this one.

I can't speak for people living in other countries because I don't live there. I live here. I don't think it's my place to berate people from other countries because that's kind of the problem. Maybe I should have started this post out like a presidential speech. My fellow Americans. Now more than ever.

Reading comprehension test:

  1. Where is OP from? What country?

2. What does "xenophobia" mean?

3. Is possible to care about other people? if yes, then:

3.1: even if they're from another country?

3.2: even if they speak another language?

3.3: even if I don't like their government?

“Houston Independent School District will be eliminating librarian positions at 28 schools this upcoming year and utilizing some of the libraries as ‘Team Centers’ where kids with behavioral issues will be sent, the district announced.

This comes as part of the new superintendent Mike Miles reform program, New Education System (NES). Currently, there are a total of 85 schools that have joined Miles’ program, and of those, 28 campuses will lose their librarians. The district said they will have the opportunity to transition to other roles within the district.

The remaining 57 NES schools’ librarians will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, according to the district.

Retired HISD Teacher in Charge of Library, Lisa Robinson, believes the library is full of some of the greatest stories ever told.

‘It was such a joy to help them find the perfect book,’ said Robinson.

She said those stories are now ripped to shreds.

‘My heart is just broken for these children that are in the NES schools that are losing their librarians,’ said Robinson.

Librarian positions have been an ongoing debate in HISD. Robinson said the former superintendent, Millard House II, made efforts to keep library staff.

‘The mandate for librarians had been put back in place. With one swipe of a pen that has been destroyed,’ said Robinson.

Superintendent Mike Miles said students are behind on reading levels, especially in 4th grade.

Former HISD Librarian and Manager of Library Services, Janice Newsum believes eliminating librarian positions could hurt reading performance even more.

‘When students engage in reading as an activity of choice, they are not only building that reading muscle, but they are also developing their vocabulary they are understanding a bit about the world that exists outside their block radius,’ said Newsum.

Mayor Sylvester Turner believes the move is unacceptable.

‘You don’t close libraries in some of the schools in your most underserved communities, and you’re keeping libraries open in other schools,’ said Turner.

‘Our less fortunate students are the ones that suffer the most; primarily because many of them live in situations that are reading deserts. They don’t have access to the reading materials. They don’t have a choice in the reading materials that they are given to read,’ said Newsum.

The district said the libraries will not be closed, just used for different purposes.

Some of the library spaces will now be turned into ‘Team Center,’ designed for students to work individually or in teams throughout the school day. Students with behavioral issues will also be placed in the Team Center where they will be able to join their class virtually.

The libraries will now be available to students who are dropped off at school before classes begin or after school before they go home.

KPRC2 reached out to the superintendent’s office for comment about why eliminating librarian positions are necessary. District officials said Superintendent Miles will be taking questions during his family event at Sugar Groove Middle School on Thursday at 6 p.m. He will have another family event Saturday, July 29 at West Briar Middle School at 9 a.m.”

Team Centers, where every and any kid will be labeled “special education” and “troublemaker”. A new spin on reform school. And those kids will also happen to be black, Latino, immigrant, and poor.

Important to understand that HISD is currently under the direct management of the Texas Education Agency whose Commissioner is appointed by book-banning nazi GOP governor Gregg Abbott. The district is no longer under local control. Houston votes overwhelmingly DEMOCRAT.

Ok, I NEED you to understand just how insane even ATTEMPTING this was for them.

1. Playing an instrument is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Don’t think I’m stepping on any toes saying that.

2. Dancing is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Still not controversial.

3. YOU AVOID, AT ALL COSTS, MOVING YOUR BODY WHILE PLAYING A WIND INSTRUMENT.  To make the correct, pleasant sounds, you need to be in the correct form. And that form involves your ENTIRE body, even your legs when sitting down.

4. “oh, but I’ve seen marching bands before and-” MARCHING BANDS HAVE ENTIRE SCIENTIFIC FIELDS DEDICATED TO FIGURING OUT HOW TO MARCH WITH MINIMUM BREAKING OF PROPER FORM. A marching band tries to be as smooth as possible while moving, so as not to jar their instrument, mouth, neck, arms, torso, or anything else. These ladies and gentlemen are BOUNCING and still playing properly, what the FU-!

5. AND ANOTHER THING! Wind instruments and dancing BOTH make demands on your breathing, so the fact that they are dancing (making you breath faster for extra oxygen) AND playing wind instruments (making you effectively hold your breath) AT THE SAME TIME is HUGE. Their lungs must be MASSIVE.

All of that also; the song is Sing, sing, sing (with a swing). If you wanna listen to some of THE SPICIEST big band ever recorded. Its a big hard song and this band does it expertly.

Hi! This is the Kyoto Tachibana High School Marching Band — it’s not a girls school but by a random accident of luck (ok, not so random, by and large band is a traditionally “girly” pursuit in Japan) the band is like 90% girls, which I personally love. They are phenomenal (as a former marching band kid I can attest to how fucking HARD this shit is), and they’ve been invited to perform at all sorts of events internationally.

You can check out their official YouTube channel here (it’s all in Japanese, sorry, but you can watch the videos just fine): https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCT-sYlT8Tw4MBhQePdXu4EA
